Take up your cross?

Hello everyone! Wednesday means another new episode of Evangebros

[

]

A couple of things that never occurred to me that came up while recording and preparing for the episode:

  • Part of the messianic expectation around the time Jesus was walking the earth was another David. Someone who would over throw the current Rome occupation, this is something we’ve talked about a few times on the podcast. It never occurred to me that when Peter recognizes Jesus as Messiah, their expectations would mean personal political gain when/if he revolted. I cannot wait to spend more time thinking/studying on this.
  • We rarely ever have a cheery episode. This one is no exception.
  • When looking at the idea of what it takes for me to take up my cross, I have to ignore resurrection. While it should inspire hope and it does, reading future knowledge into the text isn’t helpful for what we are studying at the time. The implications are different.

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts as well!

Grace and peace.
